About Dr. Raiman

A Message from Dr. Raiman

My journey in medicine began in 1991. On my very first day of medical school, I opened my notebook, picked up my pen, and wrote down the quote projected on the screen—words by Sir William Osler, better known as The Father of Modern Medicine and one of the “Big  Four” founders of John Hopkins Hospital: “The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head.”

Who knew at the time that those words would come to define my life’s work!  Over three decades later, the tools and technologies of medicine have transformed—but my calling has remained the same. My passion for healing, my devotion to the doctor–patient relationship,  and my dedication to providing uncompromising, individualized care have remained as strong as ever.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been humbled by the trust of my patients and honored by the recognition of my peers. I’ve been privileged to receive multiple awards: “Patient’s Choice Award”, “Most Compassionate Doctor Award”, and “Top Doctor” distinctions by  the International Association of Internists, and to be named among “The Leading Physicians of the World” as a Doctor of Excellence. In 2024, I was happy to earn a 100% quality performance score from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), recognizing excellence in quality, cost, and efficiency. These honors remind me that medicine is both a science and  a human art — one that demands precision, compassion, and presence in equal measure.

The Evolving Role of the Primary Care Physician

In today’s fast-changing healthcare system, the independent physician has become a rarity. Yet, paradoxically, the role of the primary care doctor has never been more vital.

According to the Journal of Internal Medicine, the average primary care physician diagnoses over 400 different diseases each year — spanning every organ system and life stage. A landmark 2022 study from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force revealed that to deliver comprehensive, guideline-based care, a primary care physician would need to work 26.7 hours per day. This astonishing finding that an internal medicine doctor has to work more hours than there is time in a day was later featured in another prestigious journal of U.S. News & World Report’s 2024 Best Hospitals Edition, underscored what many of us already know: the work of a true primary care doctor extends far beyond the exam room.

Similarly, the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine concluded that patients who have a dedicated primary care physician experience longer life expectancy and better outcomes. Why? Because the physician becomes an advocate—someone who knows your story, your challenges, and your goals.  That belief—that every patient deserves an advocate who truly knows them—is the heartbeat  of my practice.

Training and Formation

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and completed my Doctor of Medicine through the New York University–affiliated Sackler School of Medicine. I then completed my internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California.  A training that as a resident I “saw it all” by rotating through Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center, USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Hospital, Keck Hospital of USC, and Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center.  Those years at USC shaped my foundation: a relentless commitment to medical excellence by hard work, collaboration across specialties, and an abiding respect for each patient’s unique story.

My Philosophy of Care

Since completing my training, I’ve built a practice grounded in three unwavering principles: Quality. Compassion. Consistency.

Medicine, at its best, is both personal and precise. I strive to combine cutting-edge medical technology with genuine human connection — integrating data, diagnostics, and experience with empathy and trust. My approach is proactive and holistic, ensuring that  every patient receives care tailored not only to their diagnosis but to their life.

Working closely with leading specialists, I coordinate and oversee comprehensive care for my patients — from preventive health and chronic disease management to complex, multidisciplinary cases. My mission is to ensure that each patient feels heard, supported,  and guided through every step of their health journey.

A Timeless Calling

I finish my message with another tribute to Sir William Osler: an Internist and the first chief of an Internal Medicine Department, who established the first residency training program and pioneered bedside teaching for medical students by saying “The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.” These words are as true today as they were when I first wrote them in my notebook more than thirty years ago.

To my patients—past, present, and future—I offer my deepest gratitude for your trust, loyalty, and confidence. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being your physician and for making my office your medical home.

Warm regards,
Jonathan Raiman, MD
